Stephen F. Davis is Emeritus Professor of Psychology at Emporia State University (KS). In 2002-2003 he served as the Knapp Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences at the University of San Diego and currently serves as Visiting Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Texas Wesleyan University (Ft. Worth, TX). Since 1966 he has published over 290 articles and 28 textbooks and has presented over 900 professional papers. He has served as President of American Psychological Association (APA) Division 2, Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology, Southwestern Psychological Association, and Psi Chi (the National Honor Society in Psychology). Additionally, he is a Fellow of APA Divisions 1 (General), 2 (Society for the Teaching of Psychology), 3 (Experimental), and 6 (Behavioral Neuroscience and Comparative Psychology).

Davis’ passion for old-time and fiddle music developed during his boyhood in Lexington, KY where he listened to the Renfro Valley Barn Dance each Saturday night. A subsequent move to Dallas introduced him to the Texas style of fiddling and primed him for the Southeaster fiddling scene that he encountered when he moved to Bristol, TN. Since the move to Bristol, Davis judged numerous fiddle contests in North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, Georgia. While living in Clarksville, TN he founded the Tennessee State Fiddle Championships and served as the judging coordinator for the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddle Championship held annually at Athens, AL. For over 25 years he served as Editor of The Devil’s Box, a quarterly publication devoted to the preservation of fiddling and related old-time music. Davis Unlimited Records (DU) was an outgrowth of Davis’ record collecting passion (the collection now numbers more than 14,000 old-time and fiddle discs). By the time Davis moved to Kansas in 1979 there were over 45 LPs in the DU catalog.
